13-05-2018

Gateway to the Route of “White Villages”, Arcos is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. There are traces of its first prehistoric and Roman inhabitants in the Sierra de Aznar Site, but it is especially to the Moslem culture that the city owes its current physiognomy

In the maze of extremely narrow and steep streets, passing under the ancient arches, the visitor approaches his historic center, declared Ensemble Historique, where remain monumental jewels such as the Castle of the Dukes (XVth century), the Gate of Matrera (XI-XIV centuries) and the remains of the enclosure, its palaces and villas, the Basilica Santa María, the church San Pedro, not to mention many temples, chapels and convents.

These buildings house the precious sculptures that during Holy Week will parade through the streets of the city on the occasion of a declared holiday of National Tourist Interest.
